RSP: smart moves help tide over crisis

Rourkela: Cost-cutting measures and efficient production strategy have helped Rourkela Steel plant to withstand the global economic crisis, which had a cascading effect on the steel industry, its Managing Director G N Singh today said.

“Today we are going through one of the most crucial phases in the glorious history of our steel plant with recession in the global economy and its cascading effect,” Singh said in a new year message to the employees of RSP here.

“However, by strategising our production in response to the market demand and adopting various cost-control measures, we have been able to withstand the crisis to a large extent,” he said.

The modernisation and expansion plan of RSP will continue without any time and cost overruns, Singh said.

The modernisation plan envisages capacity increase by more than double to 4.5 million tonnes of hot metal, 4.2 MT of crude steel and 3.9 MT of saleable steel with establishment of fifth blast furnace.

The MD appealed to the workers to look for areas to control the cost of production and to strive to ensure judicial use of resources and said with the whole hearted support, commitment and dedication of each member, RSP will garner the strength to face any challenge. - PTI
