Hyderabad Sporting posts emphatic win

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Sporting recorded an emphatic, 4-1 win over City College Old Boys in the SAAP Budweiser Premier League football championship match at Gymkhana Grounds here on Friday.

CCOB took the lead in the 20th minute through veteran midfielder Nayeem Ahmed who was on target with a long-ranger.

However, Sporting equalised in the very next minute when Ahmed struck of a fine solo effort. CCOB could have taken the lead soon but Nayeem Ahmed failed to convert the spot kick awarded by referee James. The kick was well saved by custodian Shadab with a diving effort.

In a quick counter-attack, it was Sporting which surged ahead though Ahmed and soon Ashfaq scored the third goal. Winger Talha struck the fourth goal for Sporting to complete the tally.

Easy win for GHMC

GHMC (Bistwada) scored an easy 4-0 win over Cosmopolitan Club in the B-Division hockey league championship match at Gymkhana Grounds here. Mohd Shahnawaz, Mohd Irfan, Mohd Wajid and Toufian were the scorers for the winners.

VDCA junior league

The Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association will conduct its junior league, introduced this season, during the winter holidays.

It has formed 12 teams by picking up 16 players for each team based on their performance in the under-14 and under-16 zonal tournaments and the summer coaching camp 2008. The selected players have to complete the registration formalities by January 5.
