Rowing equipment to be procured

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Government will purchase rowing equipment worth Rs.25 lakh during the current fiscal.

Announcing this at a felicitation ceremony arranged in honour of the three rowers from the State, who had won laurels in the 14th Asian rowing championship held in Hong Kong last month, the Sports Minister, M. Vijayakumar said the purchase would be effected by the Kerala State Sports Council in consultation with the Kerala Rowing Association.

The Minister presented mementoes to all three rowers, Prasanth Nair (gold medal) and silver-medallists Dittymol Varghese and Tara Kurien and urged them to strive hard for bring back further glory from future international meets.

Mr. Vijayakumar also released the “Sports Medicine Passport”, a health and fitness profile diary prepared by renowned sports medicine Dr.P.S.M. Chandran, at the function. The KSSC secretary, G. Kishore received the first copy of the diary.

Big win for MES

MES College, Mambad, thrashed Lucky Star, Alappuzha, 4-0 in the State inter-club football championship in Perinthalmanna on Thursday night.

P. Umair (two), Nasiruddin and Mohammed Junaid were the scorers.
