KOCHI: Jeevanraksha, a programme to create awareness about blood and organ donation, will be inaugurated at a function in St. Teresa’s College on January 6. The programme will be convened jointly by IMA Blood Bank, Kerala Action Force, Pain and Paliative Care, St. Teresa’s NSS Unit and SORT with cooperation from the National Rural Health Mission. Eye donationAddressing a press meet in this regard, Dr. N. Madhu, president of Jeevanraksha 2009 project, said that if a person pledges to donate eyes, the family too needs to be aware about it as they have to arrange for donation after the death of the person. Blood donationOnly 15 per cent of people donate blood in case of any emergency. Jeevanraksha would encourage people to donate more blood and also create awareness on donating organs like heart, liver, kidneys etc from a patient who has been declared brain dead.
