CPI and CPI(M) cadres observe fast

They seek payment of more relief to farmers and farm labourers



They want more: Farmers and their supporters observing a fast in Thanjavur on Friday.

Thanjavur: Members of the Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam and All India Agriculture Labourers Union undertook a fast here on Friday demanding proper payment of flood relief to farmers and farm labourers.

Thiruganam, district secretary of CPI, and R. C. Palanivel of CPI (M) participated in the fast.

They demanded declaration of delta districts as national disaster area, construction of houses for poor people and repair of group houses.

Tiruvarur

Members of Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam and All India Agriculture Labourers Union undertook a fast before the Municipality building here on Friday.

Mutharasan, general secretary, Tamil Maanila Vivasaya Thozhilalargal sangam and Thirunavukarasu of All India Agriculture Labourers Association participated in the fast. Similar fast was held at 300 places.

Nagapattinam

A large number of cadres belonging to the CPI and CPI(M) and members of agricultural workers’ unions affiliated to these two parties observed fast at 180 places in several parts of the district on Friday.

K. Balakrishnan, State general secretary of the Vivasaya Thozhilalargal Sangam, led the fast at Avuri Thidal here that was inaugurated by V. Marimuthu, CPI(M) MLA. Similar fasts were held at three places in Nagapattinam town.

Police sources said that a large number CPI and CPM cadres including women observed fast at Mayiladuturai, Sirkazhi, Vedaranyam, Kilvelur, Velankanni, Sikkal, Tarangampadi, Vaitheeswarankovil and Kuttalam.
