Free eye and health camps organised

NAGAPATTINAM: Nearly 100 drivers of autorickshaws, vans, buses and lorries were treated at the free eye and health camps organised on Friday as part of the Road Safety Week conducted at the Regional Transport Office here. The week-long celebrations conclude on January 7.

M. Jayaraman, Collector, who inaugurated the eye camp, said that eye tests were conducted for 65 drivers of whom six persons had colour blindness. Blood tests and routine health check up for blood pressure, diabetes were also conducted.

K. Ekambaram, Regional Transport Officer, said that a seminar on road safety would be held at the E.G.S.Pillay Engineering College here on January 7 and pointed out that special road safety awareness programmes to prevent accidents would be conducted throughout the district.

He said that a rally would be held on January 6. Special squads have been formed to detect vehicles that were using air horns and also overspeeding vehicles.

R.Senthilvelan, Motor Vehicles Inspector, attended the function.
