A goalless draw

CHENNAI: Chennai Customs and Madras Sporting United played out a goalless draw on Friday in the St. Joseph’s-CFA senior division league at the Nehru stadium.

Both teams played with lot of intent and purpose but none in the frontline could translate the good moves to productive ends. There were two occasions when ill-luck came in the way.

Pradeep Kumar (MSU) in the 15th minute unleashed a powerful shot that had a goal all over it but the ball struck the left post and instead of deflecting in, went out.

Much the same experience was Kumaran’s for Customs. He seemed to find the range and power from far on the right wing but despite the ball beating everyone in the defence, it missed the cage.

As it happened the well contested match ended with a point each for both teams.

For MSU this was the second draw and having won only one match in four outings (one loss), it has five points. This was the fourth draw for Customs, to go with its one win in six outings (one loss), to be on seven points. As an added attraction the organisers introduced a ‘Man of the match’ award (Rs. 250) and the first recipient of this was MSU midfielder C. Lalnunsanga.

In the first division, TNEB and Central Excise played a 1-1 draw. Prabhakaran scored for EB while H. Karthikeyan restored parity.

There is no senior division match on Saturday. — Special Correspondent
