‘Robotics’ brings them closer to their families

BERHAMPUR: Innovation and designing of electronic home appliances has brought students interested in ‘Robotics’ closer to their families.

’Robotics’ or the designing of robots is fast picking up as a hobby among the youth of the city pursuing technical education. This techno-hobby is at times is beyond the comprehension of their parents and relatives. But the enthusiasts of ‘Robotics’ claim they have been able to make their parents and relatives techno-savvy.

According to B. Jagdish, a student of electronics and instrumentation, his interest in designing robots made him closer to his parents when he started using his knowledge of designing robots to design user-friendly electronic equipments for his home.

Jagdish said he has till now designed eight home appliances which includes remote control devices to control lights, fans and other electronic devices at home. “I used the sensors that I use for my Robotics projects for these devices,” he said. Similarly another ‘Robotics’ freak, P. Rakesh designed a sensor, which tells when their maid servant enters into different rooms.

Soumya Ranjan Bej solved a great dilemma of his mother ‘whether to see TV serials till late night or not’. Earlier the sound of TV set was hampering the sleep of other family members and study of Soumya. It was making his mother feel guilty although it was her only source of entertainment. Sensing this problem Soumya designed a wireless headphone for his mother due to which she can watch TV till late night without disturbing others. “It brought me closer to my mother who has started to take interest in my Robotics projects after that,” Soumya said.

Along with Jagdish, Soumya, Rakesh there are others like Epari Bhimraju and K. Akarsh. They have got together to form a group to use their past time in designing robots and innovating electronic devices.

They have taken part in several ‘Robotics’ competitions organised at Technofests of different technical institutes all over the country. At present they are trying hard to design an indigenous humanoid. But they always think up how the technology they use in their robot could be used for general human need at their homes.

It makes our technical hobby participative even for our family members and technology also reaches the common people for whom it is intended in the long run, they say.
