NAMAKKAL: The district administration received a sum of Rs. 2.10 crore for the execution of the scheme for Artificial Recharge of Groundwater through Dug Wells of Hard Rock Areas. Collector U. Sagayam said the scheme would cover all the blocks in the district except Elachipalayam and Kolli Hills. It would be implemented through the water resource organisation of the public works department. Small and marginal farmers will be given a sum of Rs. 4,000 each as subsidy to construct recharge structures close to their wells under the scheme. Large farmers will be given Rs. 2,000. Bank accountThe subsidy will be credited to the bank account of the selected farmers. Over 6000 farmers will be covered under the scheme. The primary objectives of the scheme includes intensifying artificial recharge and increasing the sustainability of wells. It is also aimed at bringing in overall improvement in water resources management with the participation of people. Earlier, the Collector inaugurated a photo exhibition organised in connection to the birth centenary of former Chief Minister Arignar Anna at Namakkal Government Boys Higher Secondary School (South). The exhibition is open till January 11. Mr. Sagayam, speaking on the occasion, asked the students to read the life history of Arignar Anna. He presented certificates and prizes to the winners of elocution competition conducted as a part of the event. Namakkal MLA Jeyakumar, District Revenue officer K.
