COIMBATORE: District Collector V. Palanikumar gave away aid and financial assistance worth Rs. 2.14 lakh to 77 people with physical disabilities at a two-day special camp for people with physical disabilities that started in the city on Friday. The aim of the camp was to identify disabilities and provide help accordingly through Government and voluntary organisations. A sum of Rs. 14 lakh has been allocated for the scheme. The Collector distributed tricycles, wheelchairs, hearing aids, walking sticks and various medical equipment. He also gave away a cheque for Rs. 5.34 lakh to the Vidya Vikasini School that imparts training to the children with disabilities. Mr. Palanikumar arranged for a job for Sangeetha, a girl with physical disability, who had given a petition seeking employment. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
