Many benefit from medical camp

Focus on health: Doctors screening people at the free medical camp organised by the Salem Steel Plant at Karukkalvadai panchayat, near Salem, on Sunday.

SALEM: Over 750 people were screened for various ailments during the free medical camp organised by the Salem Steel Plant at Karukkalvadai panchayat near here on Sunday.

Plant General Manager (P&A) T.K. Mazumdar inaugurated the camp in the presence of Panchayat president Pappa Ganesan and senior officials. The camp was organised as a part of the corporate social responsibility initiatives of the plant.

A team of doctors and paramedical personnel from the plant conducted the camp. Medical cards carrying information such as the patient’s name and address, weight, blood sugar level, blood pressure reading, diagnosis and the treatment given were distributed.

Over 100 blood sugar tests and tests for anaemia were conducted during the camp. Food packets were also distributed to the patients.

People from Kottamedu, Narsu Kadu and surrounding villages attended the camp.

A press release from the plant said this was the fourth medical camp held during 2008-09.
