Dhanalakshmi Bank’s micro-credit up

Kochi: Dhanalakshmi Bank, which ventured into micro credit in 1998 as part of its social welfare obligations, has sanctioned Rs.211.97 crore under this scheme covering 5,49,200 beneficiaries till September 30, last year. The outstanding balance under micro credit was Rs.110.94 crore. During the one-year period ended September 2008, the growth in this sector was nearly 50 per cent, said Amitabh Chaturvedi, Managing Director & CEO. He added that the bank had driven the micro credit process through collaboration with self-help groups, appropriate liaison with NGOs, reputed charitable organisations and government departments (Kudumbasree). — Special Correspondent

New apartment complex opened

Thiruvananthapuram: Heera Central, the 93rd apartment complex of the Heera Group, was inaugurated here recently by Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy at a function chaired by Mayor C.Jayan Babu. The 14-storey building, which has 98 flats, occupies only around 60 per cent of the one acre plot in which the project has come up. The remaining 40 cents is open space.
