Bangalore: At a seminar on “Conversion: an assault on truth,” organised by the Platform of Indian Intellects here on Sunday, Kannada writer S.L. Bhyrappa said that he would prefer to employ the term “Dharma” in place of “religion” and added that the cultural, musical and literary forms and the underlying ethics of India were a part of the patterns of life established and practised by a majority of people in the country. The book “Mataantara: Satyada mele halle”, and its English version “Conversion: an assault on truth” was released on the occasion. Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, scholar M. Chidananda Murthy said that even the Mahatma was not happy with the way the Christian missionaries conducted themselves in preaching their religion.
