CHENNAI: The police on Sunday claimed to have solved the double murder case in which an elderly couple in Saidapet were done to death. Three persons who committed the offence have been arrested while a search is on for Sangeetha (30) who is said to have conspired the murder. A special team headed by the Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), A.K. Viswanathan, followed specific clues that led to the detection of the murder for gain case, within three days. Part of the valuables stolen from the scene of crime was recovered from the suspects. Briefing journalists on the breakthrough, Commissioner of Police, K. Radhakrishnan, said that Sangeetha had conspired the murder along with her husband, M. Dinesh (27) of Kancheepuram. She told him that Anantha Krishnan was an ardent lover of music and yoga. On December 29 around 7 p.m., Dinesh and his associates, E. Puhazhendi (29) and A. Senthilnathan (25) of Kancheepuram went to the apartment of Anantha Krishnan on Jones Road on the pretext of gathering some information on music and yoga. The victim let them in and asked his wife to prepare tea for the guests. Minutes later, the trio attacked the couple, killing them on the spot. They decamped after stealing some valuables kept in the almirah. Mr. Radhakrishnan said that Sangeetha was known to the couple and the reason she organised the murder was under investigation. She met Dinesh in a hospital, where her third husband was undergoing treatment a few months ago, and developed a relationship with him. “Dinesh is the fourth husband of Sangeetha. He works in an automobile company near Kancheepuram. The woman took some money from the accused and is absconding.” Parrying questions on the clue that led to cracking of the case, the Commissioner appealed to the people not to entertain strangers unless referred by a known person in the family. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
