Thrissur: Students presented their take on current social issues through a mime competition held at the Calicut University D-Zone Youth Festival on Monday. Misuse of cyber technology was the most sought-after theme. MMS addiction among youth and related human rights violations became the subject for many performances. Ragging, terrorism and even the controversial Abhaya case were mimed on stage. A team from the Vidya Academy of Science and Technology, Thalakkottukara, bagged the first prize by presenting a piece that reflected on the case of suspected suicide by three girl students from Ambalapuzha. The mime artistes enacted the confusion of the present generation. The piece criticised social ills and the way children were being brought up. Second prizeA team from Sree Krishna College, Guruvayur, which presented the adverse impact of information technology on students, won the second prize.
