Final touches: Work on the strengthening of Tiruchi-Tirumayam National Highway in progress near Pudukottai. PUDUKOTTAI: Work on re-laying the Tiruchi – Tirumayam road, which bore the brunt of the torrential showers in March last year, is nearing completion. The 61-km segment, forming part of the National Highway 210, developed potholes, posing a serious threat to the road-users, especially in the night. An important highway, linking Karaikudi and Tiruchi, the sector accounts for a huge volume of heavy vehicles. The work, executed at an outlay of Rs.14 crore, ensured strengthening of the stretch with bituminous macadam and semi-dense bituminous carpet, according to official sources. The last phase of re-laying the 8 km-stretch between Pudukottai and Namanasamuthiram would be completed on Tuesday, the sources said. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
