Prameya in sole lead

NAGPUR: Prameya Garge of Maharashtra moved into sole lead after the ninth round in the National under-7 chess championship at the Agrasen Bhavan here on Monday.

Prameya defeated top seed Mitrabha Guha of Bengal in the morning and V.S. Rathnavel of Tamil Nadu in the evening.

In the second place is Ayush Pattnaik (MP) on eight points and further behind on 7.5 points is Mitrabha Guha.

In the girls’ section, overnight leader P. Nithya of Hyderabad overlooked a rook for minor piece in the opening and lost the morning game to Khushi Dharewa of Bengal.

The one point lead also vanished. In the evening session, Nithya bounced back with a 66-move win against Vidula Dempo of Goa to take a half point lead with eight points from nine rounds.

Two rounds remain to be played.

Girls: Vidula Dempo (Goa) 7 lost to P. Nithya (AP) 8; Khushi Dharewa (Ben) 7.5 drew with Ruttumbara Bidhar (Ori) 6.5; R. Vaishali (TN) 6.5 lost to Arpita Mukherjee (Ben) 7.

Eighth round: Boys: Mitrabha Guha (Ben) lost to Prameya Garge (Mah), Rakesh Jena (Ori) lost to Arush Jain (Del), Aryan Chopra (Del) lost to V.S. Rathnavel (TN).

Girls: P. Nithya (AP) lost to Khushi Dharewa (Ben), Vidula Dempo (Goa) 7 bt Tarini Goyal (Cha), S.S. Hashini (TN) lost to Bansi Prathima (AP).
