Three injured in robbery attempt

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Three persons, including two policemen, sustained bullet injuries in Kalakji here on Monday when three young men who had come to pick up their motorcycle after an unsuccessful robbery bid fired at them.

The accused have been arrested and identified as Sahid, Majid and Ishtihak. The injured — Head Constable Ashok, Constable Vikram and tea-vendor Rajkumar — are recuperating at AIIMS.

Four young men on two motorcycles reached the Central Bank of India branch in Krishna Market around 1:30 p.m. One of them barged into the bank brandishing a country-made pistol while his accomplices kept a vigil outside.

The bank officials called the Police Control Room and a team soon reached the bank. During investigation, an abandoned motorcycle was found parked near the bank and some plainclothesmen were deployed to keep a watch on the two-wheeler.

Accused arrested

“A few hours later, three young men returned to pick up the motorcycle. When the policemen tried to catch them, one of them fired on the police team. Two policemen and a tea-vendor were injured. But the accused were overpowered and later arrested,” said the officer.

This is the fourth instance of robbers targeting banks in the Capital in the past two months.
