CUDDALORE: The Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) on Tuesday launched a master health check-up programme for its executives and superintendents. A statement from the NLC said that 733 officials would undergo check-up in the next 25 days. In 2005, a total of 750 officials had gone to Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, for check-up. As the practice was time consuming, the NLC had drafted a 35-member medical team from Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences to render healthcare services in Neyveli itself. The medical team had brought apparatus for blood tests and X-Ray, echo cardiogram and electro-cardiogram equipment. The statement also said that the NLC had been organising health camps for conducting cancer tests on spouses of the employees, since 2005. It was also offering health insurance facility to retired employees and their families to the extent of Rs. 2 lakh a year, besides Rs. 3,250 towards buying medicines. The NLC General Hospital was treating lakhs of inpatients annually, including employees and people in the neighbourhood, the statement said. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
