Eight injured in group clash

Staff Reporter

VANIYAMBADI: Eight persons were injured when two groups clashed in a dispute over distribution of property at Kalandhara near here on Sunday night.

Police said that Natarajan (30), son of Chinnapaiyan and Muniammal of Kalandhara had married Thavamani (25) of Chinnamottur. He often used to quarrel with his mother Muniammal over a property. Natarajan died six months ago and Thavamani continued to stay with his mother.

But, the relationship between Muniammal and Thavamani was not smooth owing to the property issue. On Sunday, Muniammal started a fight with Thavamani while she was in their agriculture field and Thavamani complained to her brother Murugesan.

On Sunday night, Murugesan came along with 20 people to Chinnapaiyan’s house. The group assaulted Chinnapaiyan and his family members. Chinnapaiyan, Muniammal, their daughters Manjula, Amsa and sons-in-law Selvam and Ravi sustained injuries. Thavamani and Murugesan also sustained injuries during a counter-attack. All the injured were admitted to Vaniyambadi Government Hospital.

Based on a complaint from Muniammal, the Vaniyambadi taluk police arrested two supporters of Murugesan - Devandaran and Kumar. A case was registered. The police are in search of the other accused.
