Pravin Amre unhappy with run-rate rule

Chennai: Mumbai coach Pravin Amre was unhappy that the net run-rate rule would decide the team progressing to the next stage if the first innings remained incomplete in the Ranji Trophy semifinal here.

Saurashtra is ahead on net run-rate. Amre said he favoured the old quotient rule where both the runs scored and the wickets taken are taken into consideration. The net run-rate is essentially determined by the runs scored against the runs conceded.

The Mumbai coach said his team came to know about the rule only on Monday night. This explained Mumbai’s decision to declare on the overnight score after skipper Wasim Jaffer had said his team would bat for another hour on Tuesday.

Amre, however, was confident that his team would take the clear path to the final by picking up the remaining five Saurashtra wickets onthe last day. — Special Correspondent
