FOR PARCHED LAND: Pipes being laid by the Water Resources Department on the Pampa river-bed at Maramon, near Kozhencherry, on Tuesday as part of a project to revive a 40-year-old irrigation scheme that has been lying defunct for the past few years owing to acute water scarcity in the river during the pre-summer and summer months. The Rs.3.5-lakh project aims at fetching water from the channel on the western part of the river-bed to the dry eastern side where the pumping station is located. — © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
