Naidu asks aspirants to be ready for sacrifices

HYDERABAD: Having almost stitched up an electoral alliance with the TRS, the Telugu Desam Party president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, got down to the next challenging task of asking ticket aspirants in the Telangana region to “be prepared for sacrifices.”

Mr. Naidu utilised the opportunity to address a workshop for office-bearers of the affiliated wings of the party on Tuesday to drive home the point to the aspirants that they may have to forego their tickets in some constituencies in favour of the TRS and Left parties.

He reportedly told the leaders that their sacrifices were necessary as the “formidable grand alliance” of TDP, TRS and Left parties was all set to capture power in the State.

He is believed to have observed that he was “thousand per cent sure of the alliance’s victory.” The party would recognise their services and consider them for the posts of MLCs and members of Rajya Sabha. Party sources said Mr. Naidu made another significant comment in the context of the TDP changing its stand on Telangana and moving closer to TRS wondering why T. Devender Goud left TDP. If Mr. Goud was sincere about Telangana he would have stayed back or even returned but obviously his agenda was different.

He was still puzzled by Mr. Goud’s decision, as the party gave all the importance he deserved. Similar was the case with K. Kala Venkata Rao and T. Seetharam. The TDP president said it was because of the fear of his imminent defeat that the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, was coming up with so-called survey reports projecting a Congress victory in 230 Assembly and 36 Lok Sabha seats, to mislead the people.

The recent ZPTC byelection results had called his bluff and if Congress had lost in two more, Dr. Reddy himself would have been forced to resign.

Several Congressmen were likely to rebel against the leadership in the coming days, Mr. Naidu said.
