KARUR: As strike by lorry operators entered the second day, defiant fleet owners here say that they are ready to surrender vehicle permits as they are “ operating under great strain and incurring losses”. District Lorry Owners’ Association president K. Raju said here on Tuesday that it was no more profitable to operate vehicles on current freight rates. If the Government were to push them by cancelling the permits, then they were ready to surrender the permits, he added. With the tanker operators planning to join the strike on Wednesday, difficulty in fuel supply was expected. Transportation of commodities, goods and vegetables are badly hit. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
