Plea to implement Coleroon water scheme

PUDUKOTTAI: The Farmers’ Development Association, at its meeting held here recently, urged the State Government to implement the Coleroon Surplus Water Supply scheme without any delay.

A resolution adopted at the meeting referred to the need for providing irrigational facility to the district.

Compensation

Association president Sivasamy said that the meeting also adopted a resolution pleading for a fair disbursement of compensation to the farmers whose crops had been badly damaged during the torrential showers in November.

He also urged the Central Government to fix the procurement price per tonne for sugarcane at Rs. 2,200.
