Chennai: R. Marikkani powered Arrows FC to a 1-0 win over Tamil Nadu Special Police in the St. Joseph’s-CFA Senior Division football league here on Tuesday. With this result, its fifth defeat, TNSP has just a single point from six matches. Neither side began the game with any kind of assurance, and for the first ten minutes or so the ball went from one half to the other invested with much hope and little purpose. It all changed in the fourteenth minute, with Arrows midfielder Prasun Chakraborthy exploited the space he was given in front of TNSP’s deep-lying defence. Receiving the ball about ten yards outside the box, Prasun spotted a diagonal run from Marikanni and threaded the ball through the defence. After taking a touch to line up the shot, the centre forward fired in from a quite acute angle. Marikanni had another chance about a minute later, as he ran on to a flick-on from his Nigerian strike partner Stanley. One on one with the keeper S. Gunaseelan, he underhit his shot slightly, allowing a scrambled save. — Sports Reporter © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
