Alumni includes civil servants, politicians and academicians Cultural and brainstroming sessions will be held VIJAYAWADA: ‘Star Meet-2009’, a special occasion, which will brings together all the alumni of Maris Stella College, will be held on the college premises on January 10. More than 500 old students of the college from different parts of the country are expected to participate in the event. Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, College Principal Japamalai and Vice-Principal G. Innayasamma said they extended invitations to all the alumni of the college and the response was encouraging. “Besides conducting cultural events, we plan to conduct brainstorming sessions on various topics, particularly about the curricula among the alumni and from which we expect suggestions on the possible changes to the curricula to reduce the gap between the industry and educational institutions,” they explained. Golden jubileeAs the college would celebrate its golden jubilee in 2012, plans were afoot to enlist ideas from the old students to celebrate the event on a grand scale and garner their support for its successful conduct. “Our alumni include civil servant Usha Kakarla, politicians Sanakkayala Aruna and Panchumarthi Anuradha, besides several academicians. As many as 33 old students are working here as faculty members, which is one fourth of the total strength of our faculty,” they said. The Principal announced that the meet was an opportunity to evaluate the success of the college till date, which could be assessed based on the merits of the alumni. “We want to listen from them how our teaching and discipline helped them and their suggestions for us to improve ourselves,” Ms. Japamalai said.
