CUTTACK: The Cuttack city police have foiled a major dacoity bid when a team of the Malgodown police raided a hideout near the railway station area and arrested three dreaded criminals. Police seized a sophisticated mouser, a magazine, a bhujali (sharp weapon) and a motorcycle from their possession. “The arrested trio has confessed that they were planning to commit a major crime in the city but are not disclosing anything further,” said city DCP A.N. Sinha. It was really shocking to see that young and educated youths were getting involved in such nefarious activities, Mr. Sinha said. Satyanarayan Mohanty alias Babu, Suryakanta Das and Harish Chandra Naik (all belonging to city) were forwarded to court on Wednesday, said Malgodown inspector P.K. Rath. He said the police team was patrolling near the area when some persons were seen moving suspiciously under the railway over bridge. “Police soon swung into action and raided the area arresting the three while three to four others of the group escaped from the area taking advantage of darkness,” Mr. Rath said. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
