KUSMA objects to Minister’s remark

Bangalore: The Karnataka Unaided Schools Managements’ Association (KUSMA) has said that Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri’s recent statement that the Government would not permit any new English-medium school in the State until the Supreme Court spelt out its final decision on the medium of instruction issue was a “blatant contradiction of the judgment of the High Court”.

KUSMA president G.S. Sharma said in a release here on Tuesday that the Full Bench order of the High Court stated “in clear terms that running an English-medium school is a right of a citizen of this country”. He said that the court had quashed all the clauses pertaining to derecognition of schools and hence “the legal inference is that the recognition of all derecognised schools has been restored”.

Mr. Sharma pointed out that though the State Government had questioned the judgment of the Supreme Court, it had not obtained any stay order and the High Court order was therefore still in force.

“Any violation of this judgment will amount to contempt of court,” he said.
