Fog disrupts flights

KOLKATA: Dense fog disrupted flight and train services in the city on Wednesday morning, with many flights and trains running behind the scheduled time.

As visibility on the runway at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport dropped to zero metres in the morning, 26 domestic and international flights got delayed. The first flight took off at 9.05 a.m. after improvement in the general visibility, airport sources said.

Flights bound for Delhi, Mumbai, Guwahati, Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Ranchi, Agartala were delayed. An Air India flight carrying 435 Haj pilgrims from Medina was diverted to Nagpur and could land at the airport only at 11.30 a.m. instead of the scheduled time of 4.20 a.m.

Train movement was also hit with four trains of the Eastern Railway section being rescheduled. The trains were Up Howrah-Patna Janshatabdi Express, Up Howrah-Mumbai Mail, Up Howrah-Dehradun Doon Express and Up Howrah-Jodhpur Express.
