MCD, INTACH to re-develop Ferozshah Kotla

NEW DELHI: The historic Ferozshah Kotla and Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg in the Capital are all set for a make-over soon with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi Standing Committee approving the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage for their re-development.

MCD Standing Committee chairman Vijender Gupta informed on Wednesday that since the proposal to re-develop the stretch between Delhi Gate and Darya Ganj involved changes in the traffic pattern, the area in front of Ferozshah Kotla was proposed to be taken up in the first phase as it would involve minimum disturbance.

“The MCD is interested in initiating the streetscape concept from ITO to Darya Ganj junction. Apart from the underground parking, Shaheed Park will be developed to provide a clear view of Ferozshah Kotla,” he said.

MCD Chief Town Planner V. K. Bugga said: “This project that includes re-development, landscaping and provisioning of parking at Ferozshah Kotla would be taken up on a pilot basis. INTACH would provide consultancy services and the MCD would carry out the implementation.”

The ongoing projects of the MCD such as underground parking at Shaheed Park and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) proposal will be integrated with the overall streetscape development.
