CHENNAI: In view of the visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Pratibha Patil to the Chennai Trade Centre in Nandambakkam to participate in the ‘Pravasi Bharatiya Divas’ convention on Thursday and Friday respectively, the Chennai Suburban police have appealed to public to avoid using certain routes. According to a release, road-users have been told to avoid using the St. Thomas Mount Road, Butt Road and Mount-Poonamallee Road. Vehicles proceeding towards the airport from the Avadi and Poonamallee areas would have to take the Kumanan Chavadi, Mangadu, Kundrathur and Pallavaram to reach the GST Road. From 7 a.m. till noon on Thursday and from 2.30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, road-users bound for Porur from Guindy/Anna Salai should take the Arcot Road instead of the Butt Road. During the same period, long-distance buses, in both the directions, between the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus in Koyambedu and Kancheepuram, Tiruttani, Tiruvallur and Vellore would be diverted via Maduravoyal, the release said. More traffic diversionsThe city police might also make some traffic diversions on Anna Salai and Sardar Patel Road to facilitate the movement of VVIPs on Thursday and Friday. According to a release, the motorists proceeding to the airport are requested to start well in advance to avoid delay. In the event of traffic restrictions being imposed, motorists going to the airport from Sardar Patel Road should move towards Madhya Kailash, Rajiv Gandhi Salai, Velachery Road and Tambaram. Vehicle-users intending to go to the Anna flyover area from Sardar Patel Road would have to take the Greenways Road, TTK Salai, R.K Salai or via Greenways Road, Santhome High Road and R.K. Salai. Motorists proceeding to the airport from the Anna flyover area should take the R.K. Salai, Santhome High Road, Greenways Road, Madhya Kailash, Rajiv Gandhi Salai, Velachery High Road and Tambaram or via Anna Salai, Nandanam, Chamiers Road, Kotturpuram Road, Madhya Kailash, Rajiv Gandhi Salai, Velachery Road and Tambaram. They can also take the route via South Usman Road, Aranganathan sub-way, 11th Avenue, Ashok Nagar, Kasi Theatre, 100 Feet Road, Kathipara and GST Road, the release said. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
