Religious fervour marks Muharam

KRISHNAGIRI: Hundreds of Sunni Muslims in Kaveripatinam celebrated Muharam festival with a zeal. Youths painted their body with colours depicting tigers (Puli Vesham) and danced on the streets in groups.

They went to the Chinnamakan mosque and offered salt and pepper after the prayer to fulfil their wishes.

Many thronged Chinnamakan to have a glimps of the dance ‘Aadupuli Aattam’ and offer them money.

The family of T.N. Nadisaheb and Abdul Kadher Saheb is conducting the festival at Chinnamakan for the past 127 years.

In Jagadevi, Shia Muslims wore black dress and offered prayer by beating themselves as part of the festival.
