CHIKMAGALUR: Dayananda Swamy, coordinator of the Akhila Karnataka Praani Daya Sangha, Bangalore, has urged the Government to set up a development authority for Amruth Mahal Kavals (cattle breeding centres) in the State. Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, Dayananda Swamy stressed the need to protect and conserve these cattle breeding centres which have a historical background. Pointing out that about four lakh acres of land were reserved for Amruth Mahal Kavals in various districts in the State in 1916-17, he regretted that it had been reduced to about 53,000 acres of land now. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
