Bangalore: Jairaj’s hat-trick (second, 51st and 57th minutes) helped Rail Wheel Factory hold Postal to a 3-3 draw in a State ‘A’ division hockey league match at the KSHA Stadium, here on Thursday. Prakash Chalke (two) and Kamala Kannan scored for Postal. In another match, MEG defeated MLI 4-3. Samson Fernandes, Stephen D’Souza, Dayal and Monnappa scored for the victor, while Praful (two) and Dhananjay Mahadik scored for MLI. SBMJC wins cricket titleHost Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College (SBMJC) won the cricket title in the VIE ’09 all-India sports fest, being organised by SBMJC in Bangalore. In the final, SBMJC defeated Guru Nanak (Chennai) by 115 runs. State cricketer Manish Pandey slammed 134 to set up SBMJC’s win. Chasing SBMJC’s 333, Guru Nanak was dismissed for 218 in 37 overs. In tennis, Ajay Selvaraj of Chennai won the men’s title beating Jagadeeshan Kumar 7-5, 6-4 while Asha Nandakumar of SBMJC bagged the women’s title with a 7-6(2),6-4 win over Grace Hanna. In the women’s basketball league, Jeppiar University defeated Mount Carmel College 41-35 and M.O.P .Vaishnav College (Chennai) beat SBMJC 40-37. In the volleyball league, Satyabhama University (men) and St. Joseph’s College women emerged champions while Al-Ameen won the men’s hockey title. Junior volleyball squadsNakul and Nisha will lead the Karnataka boys’ and girls’ teams respectively in the National junior volleyball championship at Pandavapura, near Mandya, from January 11 to 18.
