Rs. 55.45-crore crop relief for farmers

TIRUVARUR: The District Collector, M. Chandrasekaran has said that the State government has allotted Rs. 55.45 crore as first instalment for providing relief to farmers whose crops were damaged in the recent rain in Tiruvarur district.

He distributed relief to ten farmers to the tune of Rs. 1.26 lakh at Thozhuvur in Valangaiman taluk on Wednesday.

He said that the first instalment has been split and deposited in both Thanjavur Central Co-operative Bank and Kumbakonam Central Co-operative bank which have service area in the district.

Farmers could take the relief amount from the respective Primary Agriculture Co-operative Banks (PACBs). The list of beneficiaries is displayed in the banks.

He also inspected the development works in Valangaiman taluk. He saw road works at Aravur, Manikkamangalam villages.

He inspected the fair price shop at Kottaiyur. He examined the stock position and commodities distributed. At Vedampur Panchayat Union School he checked whether eggs were properly supplied in the noon meal. He counted the eggs and verified the register.

Kasinathan, Joint Registrar of Co-operatives and R. Panneerselvam Tahsildar accompanied the Collector.
