MANGALORE: Activists of the Popular Front of India, People’s Union for Civil Liberties, and Komu Souharda Vedike staged a protest in front of Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Thursday against the arresting of the editor-in-chief of Kannada daily Karavali Ale B.V. Seetharam. The activists condemned the alleged attacks on shopkeepers, who were selling the copies of the daily. They distributed some copies of Thursday’s edition of the newspaper during the protest. Member of the Komu Souharda Vedike Pattabhirama Somayaji alleged that the sangh pariwar was behind these incidents. The Muslim Lekhakara Sangha (MLS) of Mangalore and the Dakshina Kannada unit of the Janata Dal (Secular) have condemned the arrest of Mr. Seetharam in their press releases on Thursday. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
