Sports Minister delighted

NEW DELHI: The Union Sports Minister, M.S. Gill, was extremely pleased with the performance of Somdev Devva rman in the Chennai Open on Thursday.

“I am delighted and I think all India should be,” Mr. Gill told The Hindu as he heard the news of the young Indian’s giant-killing feat.

“Moya is a world-class player and our new young player has beaten him,” the minister said.

“I have been looking for long for a new Ramanathan Krishnan. This young man might be the one I am looking for. I also look closely for all new talent, boys and girls.

“Bopanna did very well. I think he deserved a wild card. As Sports Minister I will continue to watch and support all new boys and girls in tennis. I have asked my staff to arrange a meeting with all young tennis players including Devvarman,” Mr. Gill said. — Special Correspondent
