Health centres being upgraded

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: Community health centres in the peripheral areas of Kochi are in the process of being upgraded to carry out deliveries, said Minister for Health P. K. Sreemathy, in the inaugural speech of the valedictory function of the two-day regional workshop to assess the health parameters of the State.

For this, staff nurses are being trained at medical college for three months and will be posted at peripheral centres. The trained nurses will be able to assist the medical officer in-charge of the CHC in handling delivery cases. Ms. Sreemathy said that 1,500 nurses will be appointed to the CHCs and the lack of doctors in the health services will be covered by appointing doctors through NRHM.

The action plan on improving the health parameters of the State was also presented.
