‘Premier Skills’kicks off

KOZHIKODE: ‘Premier Skills’, a training programme for football coaches jointly conducted by the British Council and the Premier League, kicked off here on Friday. Former Jamaican international Robbie Earle is leading the team of trainers from the English Premier League.

The team comprises Gareth Hughes (Manchester City), Johnnie Garside (Everton) and Adam Browne (Portsmouth) and they will train 44 coaches from across Kerala. The camp concludes on January 15.

Talking to reporters here on Friday, Earle said the Indian coaches lacked in fitness. “That is something I have noticed during my interactions with the coaches so far here in India,” he said. “Compared to coaches from many other countries, they are not physically that strong.”
