Guntur in semifinals

VIJAYAWADA: Guntur District Football Association defeated Dynamos Football Club, Tirupati, 4-1 while Nellore beat Khammam Tribal Academy 3-2 to enter the semifinals of the 2nd Dutta Prasad memorial football tournament held at AC College grounds at Guntur on Friday.

The results: Vizag bt Srikakulam 8-1, Nellore bt Khammam Tribal Academy 3-2, Guntur DFA bt Dynamos (Tirupati) 4-1, Vijayawada Blues bt KTPS (Palovancha) 3-2.

Senior badminton

The Andhra Pradesh State senior and junior badminton championships for year 2009-2010 will be held at Gudivada (Krishna) and Warangal respectively, according to Andhra Pradesh Badminton Association secretary K.Ch. Punnaiah Chowdary here on Friday.

In the annual general council meeting held at Guntur on Thursday, APBA had decided to conduct the sub-junior (u-16) and midget (u-13) championships at Nandyal and Rajahmundry respectively. “The veterans’ championship will be held at Hyderabad,” Chowdary added.

The meeting also decided to ban I. R. D. Sravani, a shuttler from East Godavari for one year on disciplinary grounds. “Both the player and her parents behaved in an unruly manner during the Krishna Khaitan tournament held at Hyderabad on overage issue,” said Chowdary.

The meeting had decided to include 60-plus segment in the veteran championship from this year.

Nominated

Sports Authority of India gymnastic coach Y. Ram Mohan has been nominated by the Gymnastics Federation of India as the competition director for the 49th senior National artistic gymnastics championship to be held at Warangal from January 10 to 13 and the 34th National Games to be held at Ranchi (Jharkhand) from February 15 to 21.
