Man arrested

Karwar: The Dandeli police have arrested a youth from Raichur district in connection with the death of Manjula Shivappa of Ambikanagar.

The body of Manjula (26), daughter of a driver with the Karnataka Power Corporation, was found hanging from the ceiling at her home on October 23, 2008. Police had closed the case terming it a suicide.

However, the case was reopened after Manjula’s mother complained to the Director-General of Police that her daughter was murdered.

The accused, Harish Veerayya Yatnallimath, of Ravadakunda, in Sindhanur taluk of Raichur, was arrested on Saturday and produced in court. The police said that Harish was in love with Manjula and he had allegedly killed her over a dispute when her parents had gone out of town. He later hanged her body to give the impression that she had committed suicide.
