Satyam fraud will not impact Congress prospects: YSR

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy has asserted that the fraud committed by former chairman of Satyam B. Ramalinga Raju will not impact the fortunes of the Congress party in the general elections.

In an interview to a Telugu television channel on Sunday, Dr. Reddy made light of reports in a section of the media that the Congress would pay a heavy price for the Satyam scam. Fielding questions, the Chief Minister ridiculed the Opposition parties charge that the Government had links with Maytas Infrastructure.

He said that apart from Maytas, contractors owing allegiance to the Telugu Desam Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party were also undertaking works. “All the works are allotted as per the prescribed norms,” he said and clarified that there was no truth in the charge that Maytas was favoured for Machilipatnam Port works.

Dr. Reddy also took a dig at the TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu, who he said had ensured that Mr. Ramalinga Raju shared the platform with US President Bill Clinton during his visit to Hyderabad.
