CHENNAI: Various events have been lined up on Sunday as part of the Chennai Sangamam. Kadavamuthatam, paraiyattam, kilavan kilavi attam, udukai, naiyandi melam, karakam, madu attam, mannin padalgal, silambattam, poikkal kudhirai, nattupura padalgal and devar attam would be held at 5 p.m. at Nageswara Rao Park in Mylapore, Natesan Park in T.Nagar, Sivan Park in K.K. Nagar, Periyar playground in Valasaravakkam, Tower Park, Anna Nagar; Ashok Nagar Park; Elliots Beach; Thiru Vi Ka Park in Shenoy Nagar; Anna Park in Royapuram; Independence Day Park, Valluvar Kottam; East Coast Road, Palavakkam; Kodambakkam playground; Thiru Vi Ka Nagar School playground, Perambur. At 7 p.m. Carnatic music programmes will be held at many of the above mentioned locations. At Elliots Beach, Besant Nagar, Anusham troupe would present ‘Varna Jaalam.’ At Thiru Vi Ka Nagar School playground, Perambur, ‘Therukoothu’ will be performed at 7 p.m. A fusion music programme ‘Panchamritham,’ will be organised at East Coast Road, Palavakkam, at 7.30 p.m. From 8.15 p.m., ‘Gramiya Nadanam’ will be held at Natesan Park, Tower Park, Thiru Vi Ka Park and Independence Day Park, and a drama ‘Valli Kalyanam’ will be staged at Thiru Vi Ka Park. The events that would be organised at the Cantonment playground in Pallavaram, from 5.30 p.m., include periyamelam, oyilattam, kalaripayattu and thudumbattam. At the Tourism Fair in Island Grounds, events including singara sandai, silambam, drama and vilakkukettu would be held at 7 p.m. At the Lady Willingdon College grounds, events including kadambha nigazhvu, poo kavadi and periamelam, would be held at 5.30 p.m. On all the days of Chennai Sangamam, traditional music programme by students of Government Music College would be presented at 6 a.m. It would be followed by a Carnatic vocal concert from 6.30 a.m. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
