Kerala set for record finish

KOCHI: Three years ago, Manipur’s Mohammed Washeef Ali, who was Tomba Singh earlier, was sent by his parents to Kerala to study Islam. When he joined the JDT Islam School in Kozhikode, he took a fancy for athletics On Saturday, Washeef led Kerala to the u-14 400m relay gold in the 54th National schools athletics championship here.

Kerala is now headed for its biggest-ever victory in the championship.

The results: Senior boys: 5000m: Birsa Oram (Ori) 14:51.97s NMR, OR Jawahar Prasad, UP, 14:57.9s, 1990. 110m hurdles: Dileep Venugopal (Ker) 14.94s. 4x100m relay: Kerala (K. S. Shahansha, K. Shabid, M. M. Sreeraj, T. Blesson) 42.82s. High jump: Vijay Krishna (Jkd) 1.96m. Javelin: Arun Kumar (Del) 62.71m.

Junior boys: 100m hurdles: K. Lukmal Hakkim (Ker) 13.81s. 4x100m relay: Kerala (P. S. Nikhil, Jijin Vijayan, Amal George, Bineesh K. Shaji) 43.19s. Triple jump: Ankit Sharma (Del) 14.46m. Pole vault: Parmendra (Vidya Bharaty) 4.20m NMR, OR Shiv Bahadur (Mah) 4.13, 2007. Discus throw: Karan Singh (Har) 50.34m.

Sub-junior boys: 80m hurdles: Sandeep Dubey (Vidhya Bharati) 11. 51s. 4x100m relay: Kerala (Mohd Washeef Ali, Suraj, A. Unais, A. M. Abdu Samad) 46.83s. Discus throw: Ravinder (Del) 50.55m.

Senior girls: 5000m: M. D. Thara (Ker) 17:25.09s. 100m hurdles: M. S. Darsana (Ker) 14.7s. 4x100m relay: Kerala (Shimna Mary, R. Anu, Sini Alex, E. M. Indulekha) 47.8s NMR, OR own, 48.05, 2008. Long jump: Amitha Baby (Ker) 5.64m. Pole vault: Dona K. Augustine (Ker) 3.15m.

Junior girls: 100m hurdles: Tinu Raju (Ker) 15.64s. 4x100m relay: Kerala (Soniya Thomas, Anu Thomas, G. A. Revathy, G. Lavanya) 48.8s. Pole vault: Juby Paily (Ker) 2.80m, EMR.

Sub-junior girls: 80m hurdles: P. Merlin (Ker) 12: 52s. 4x100m relay: Kerala (Sumimol Mathew, T. S. Arya, T. P. Anupriya, Jais Rani) 50.32s. Discus: Navjeet Kaur (Pjb) 33.65m.
