Applications for below poverty line cards being issued till January 24

Sirsi: Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Hartalu Halappa paid a surprise visit to the Nemmadi Kendra on College Road here on Monday and reviewed the system of working and attended to public grievances there.

Speaking to presspersons at the Kendra, he said that for below poverty line cards, applications could be submitted till January 24.

In Udupi, Mangalore and Kodagu districts, below poverty line cards were issued and in the remaining districts, distribution would be completed soon, he said.

Delay

Admitting that there was delay in issuing cards, he said it was due to the number of assignments given to the Nemmadi Kendras. He said that alternative arrangements would be made for speeding up work.

He also instructed the kendras to issue provisions from the 15th to the 30th of every month.

If shops distribute ration only for a couple of days in a month and stopped thereafter, their licence would be cancelled, he warned.

Mr. Halappa also said that the Government was planning to purchase rice from mills and supply it to people at less than the market price, he added.

Tahsildar Krishnamurthy and Food and Civil Supplies officer Nagarajappa were present.
