HYDERABAD: The special judge for SPE and ACB cases, Vijayawada, has convicted and sentenced Gurandapalli Aseervadam, former mandal deputy surveyor, Kalidindi mandal tahsildar’s office, in Krishna district, to undergo one year simple imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs.1,000. In default of payment of fine, he has to undergo simple imprisonment for three months, each for offences under Section 7 and 13(1) (d) read with 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Aseervadam was trapped by ACB on March 18, 2004, when he demanded/accepted a bribe of Rs. 1,000 for surveying Gorthi Radha Krishna’s land. In another case, the judge also convicted and sentenced K. Subba Rao, former Pedana APCPDCL lineman, in the district, to undergo one year simple imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs.1,000. In default of payment, he has to undergo three month’s simple imprisonment, each for offences under Section 7 and 13(1) (d) read with 13 (2) of the Act. Both the sentences are to run concurrently. Rao was trapped by ACB officials on August 26, 2003, when he demanded/accepted a bribe of Rs. 600 from T. Kondaiah of Pedana for preparing the estimates and processing the application for electric service meter connection to his house. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
