Junior doctors’ strike from January 20

Bangalore: The Karnataka State Junior Doctors’ Association 2008-09 has threatened to go on strike from January 20 if the government does not increase the stipend.

Speaking to presspersons here on Monday, Arun Kumar N, vice-president of the association, said that the stipend of interns, postgraduates and super-speciality students had not been increased in three years. “We have been raising the issue by submitting memorandums to the officials and Ministers. But there has been no response,” he said.

Mahesh Babu, general secretary , said that compared to the junior doctors in other States, the stipend in the State was meagre.
