HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Fire and Emergency Services Department is acquiring three advanced technology hydraulic platforms from Finland for fire-fighting operations in high-rise edifices more effectively. With this, firemen will be able to reach up to 54 metres height (17 floors) in case of a fire accident and carry out fire-fighting and rescue operations with ease. They can reach any floor within three minutes and rescue people. A five-member team led by Fire Services Director-General Aruna M. Bahuguna visited Finland and studied functioning of the vehicles being purchased from Bronto Skylift Company costing over Rs.17 crore. The department is acquiring three vehicles in addition to the existing hydraulic platform which reaches only up to 10 floors. “We have completed final inspection of new vehicles and vehicles are expected to reach Hyderabad within three weeks,” said District Fire Officer (DFO) P. V. Ramana. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
