TNSP holds ICF to 1-1 draw

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Special Police (TNSP) held ICF to a 1-1 draw in the St. Joseph’s-CFA senior division football league at the Nehru Stadium on Monday.

ICF took the lead in the sixth minute when F. Jegan found the net with a right-footer off an indirect free-kick. TNSP equalised in the 46th minute through man-of-the-match M. Bharath Kingsley.

Binu, Ajitha win 800m

Olympian K.N. Binu of Kerala and Ajitha of Karnataka won the 800m in the athletics event of the Central Revenue Sports Board meet at the JN Stadium here on Monday.

Over 600 competitors from five Southern states are taking part in the championships.

Olympian Anand Natarajan, Ramachandran, International volleyball player Nixon and K.B. Appiah, former hockey International, lit the torch. Christy (TN) took the oath.

Milind scalps six

C.V. Milind’s six-wicket haul earned St. Andrew’s an eight-wicket win over Balasai Int’l in the third round of the Polly Umrigar Trophy under-16 inter-State schools cricket tournament here.

State u-25 squad

S. Suresh Kumar will lead Tamil Nadu in the under-25 cricket team in the inter-State matches (South Zone) for the P.S. Ram Mohan Rao Trophy scheduled in Goa from January 17 to 23.

Veterans tennis

The Mylapore Club is organising the T.S. Santhanam memorial national veterans’ claycourt tennis tournament from January 26 to 31. The tournament carries prize money of Rs 5.50 lakh. The events are for men’s 45-plus, 55-plus and 65-plus singles and doubles. Entries close on January 18 with Tournament Director V.M. Ramalingam, Mylapore Club.
